Molybdenum market update on October 19, 2026

On Monday, China’s molybdenum prices as a whole showed a high-level pullback, mainly due to steel enterprises continuously suppressing ferromolybdenum procurement prices, the unabated slow decline in international molybdenum prices, and increased profit-taking sentiment among suppliers.

However, affected by strong production cost support and good development trends in downstream molybdenum industries, the downside room for molybdenum product prices is limited. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate decreased by approximately RMB 10/mtu, RMB 1,000/ton, and RMB 2,000/ton, respectively; steel tender prices were around RMB 335,000/ton.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in early October 2026, key monitored steel enterprises produced a total of 19.39 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 1.939 million tons, increased by 3.1% month-on-month in daily output; produced 17.78 million tons of pig iron, with an average daily output of 1.778 million tons, increased by 1.4% month-on-month in daily output; and produced 18.20 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 1.820 million tons, decreased by 11.5% month-on-month in daily output. Among them, the daily output of crude steel in North China increased by 23,000 tons, in East China increased by 32,000 tons, in Southwest China increased by 2,000 tons, in Central South China increased by 10,000 tons, in Northeast China decreased by 7,000 tons, and in Northwest China decreased by 2,000 tons.
