Molybdenum market update on October 16, 2026

This week, China’s molybdenum prices as a whole showed a volatile downward trend.

The main reasons include: first, steel tender prices moved lower, ferromolybdenum manufacturers lowered their quotations, causing the selling price of molybdenum concentrate to decline passively; second, the recent continuous decline in overseas molybdenum prices has to some extent intensified the panic sentiment of domestic suppliers. Compared with before the National Day holiday, the current international molybdenum oxide price decreased by approximately USD 0.3/lb Mo, down 0.90%; the European ferromolybdenum price decreased by USD 0.5/kg Mo, down 0.65%.

According to Chinatungsten online statistics, this week, the price of molybdenum concentrate decreased by RMB 10/mtu, down 0.18%; the price of ferromolybdenum decreased by RMB 3,000/ton, down 0.88%; the price of molybdenum oxide decreased by RMB 10/ton-degree, down 0.18%; the price of sodium molybdate decreased by RMB 2,000/ton, down 0.86%; the price of ammonium heptamolybdate decreased by RMB 2,000/ton, down 0.60%; and the price of molybdenum powder operated steadily. It can be seen that the price declines of molybdenum raw materials and molybdenum chemical products this week were both relatively small.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in late September 2026, the steel product inventory of key monitored steel enterprises was 15.65 million tons, decreased by 8.4% compared with the previous ten-day period, increased by 10.7% from the beginning of the year, decreased by 3.7% compared with the same ten-day period of the previous month, increased by 6.7% compared with the same ten-day period of last year, and increased by 9.6% compared with the same ten-day period of the year before last. Among them, steel product inventory in Northeast China decreased by 420,000 tons, in North China decreased by 190,000 tons, in East China decreased by 570,000 tons, in Southwest China decreased by 110,000 tons, in Central South China decreased by 220,000 tons, and in Northwest China increased by 70,000 tons.
