Molybdenum market update on October 20, 2026

China’s molybdenum prices overall continued the trend of slow decline exploration.

Among them, the price of molybdenum concentrate decreased by approximately RMB 40/mtu, the price of ferromolybdenum decreased by approximately RMB 1,000/ton, the price of ammonium tetramolybdate decreased by approximately RMB 2,000/ton, and the price of molybdenum powder decreased by approximately RMB 9/kg.

On the molybdenum concentrate market, product transaction prices were carried out around RMB 5,400/ton-degree, with relatively few spot transactions, mainly attributable to low downstream inquiry and purchasing enthusiasm and strong supplier willingness to take profits.

On the ferromolybdenum market, overall operations were under pressure. The simultaneous decline in steel tender volumes and prices and the weak international molybdenum market have led to continuous declines in ferromolybdenum prices recently. Recently, Zhongnan Steel tendered 32 tons of ferromolybdenum with a delivery date of November 10; Zhongtian Iron and Steel tendered 166 tons; and Longteng Special Steel tendered 64 tons with a delivery date of November 15.

On the molybdenum chemical and its products market, wait-and-see sentiment was strong. Against the background of reduced supplier willingness to reduce prices for shipments, limited end customer demand, and insufficient confidence in price stability in the upstream market, the prices of molybdates, molybdenum powder, and molybdenum bars all declined to some extent.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in early October 2026, key monitored steel enterprises produced a total of 18.20 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 1.820 million tons, decreased by 11.5% month-on-month in daily output. Among them, the daily output of steel products in Northeast China decreased by 43,000 tons, in North China decreased by 84,000 tons, in East China decreased by 56,000 tons, in Northwest China decreased by 12,000 tons, in Southwest China decreased by 4,000 tons, and in Central South China decreased by 39,000 tons.
