Molybdenum market update on September 24, 2026

This week, the overall domestic molybdenum market showed a trend of shifting from stable to weak. With suppliers having low willingness to reduce prices for shipments and lacking momentum to raise prices, prices of most products fluctuated within a reasonable range, and the future market direction was temporarily unclear.

According to CTIA GROUP, as the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, some downstream users have completed phased procurement. Coupled with the current relatively high prices of molybdenum products, market demand has further contracted, leading to a decline in some suppliers' confidence in stabilizing prices.

According to CTIA GROUP statistics, up to now this year, the price of molybdenum concentrate has increased by RMB 1,590/ton-degree, up 40.77%; the price of ferromolybdenum has increased by RMB 91,000/ton, up 35.97%; the price of molybdenum oxide has increased by RMB 1,620/ton-degree, up 40.70%; the price of sodium molybdate has increased by RMB 56,000/ton, up 31.64%; the price of ammonium tetramolybdate has increased by RMB 90,000/ton, up 37.97%; the price of ammonium heptamolybdate has increased by RMB 91,000/ton, up 37.60%; the price of molybdenum powder has increased by RMB 160/kg, up 35.16%; and the price of molybdenum bars has increased by RMB 163/kg, up 35.67%.

In terms of news, data from the World Stainless Association shows that in the first half of 2026, stainless steel crude steel production was 33 million tons, increased by 5% year-on-year. Among them, Asian stainless steel crude steel production was 28.3 million tons, increased by 6.1% year-on-year; EU stainless steel crude steel production was 2.9 million tons, decreased by 3.7% year-on-year; US stainless steel crude steel production was 1.1 million tons, increased by 2.3% year-on-year; and stainless steel crude steel production in other countries was 600,000 tons, increased by 2.9% year-on-year.
