Molybdenum market update on September 28, 2026

At the beginning of the week, the overall domestic molybdenum market tended to be flat, mainly manifested in low enthusiasm for traders to enter the market, no obvious fluctuations in product prices for the time being, and a gentle pace of market circulation.

Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium tetramolybdate were approximately RMB 5,490/ton-degree, RMB 344,000/ton, and RMB 327,000/ton, respectively.

From the supply side, affected by factors such as the slowdown in production pace of some molybdenum mining enterprises and limited imports of overseas molybdenum products, spot supply of raw materials remained continuously tight. From the demand side, short-term market demand was moderate, mainly attributable to the fact that most downstream enterprises have completed phased procurement; however, in the long term, with the rapid development of emerging industries, molybdenum usage is expected to increase.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in mid-September 2026, key monitored steel enterprises produced a total of 19.22 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 1.922 million tons, decreased by 0.1% month-on-month in daily output; produced 17.70 million tons of pig iron, with an average daily output of 1.770 million tons, decreased by 1.4% month-on-month in daily output; and produced 18.55 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 1.855 million tons, increased by 3.4% month-on-month in daily output.
