Molybdenum market update on September 23, 2026

Domestic molybdenum prices overall showed a high-level weak trend, mainly manifested in the fact that although molybdenum concentrate prices remained firm, they were still unable to support the price-stabilizing confidence of ferromolybdenum manufacturers.

Affected by the difficulty of upward movement in steel enterprise tender prices and tight market liquidity, intermediate smelting enterprises slightly lowered their quotations, with ferromolybdenum prices decreasing by RMB 1,000/ton.

On the molybdenum concentrate market, buying and selling activity was relatively light. Affected by factors such as limited increments in spot supply of raw materials, relatively high international molybdenum prices, and good development trends in downstream molybdenum industries, suppliers had low willingness to reduce prices for shipments. Coupled with some downstream enterprises completing phased procurement, market activity further weakened.

On the ferromolybdenum market, product prices came under downward pressure, but steel enterprises successively carried out ferromolybdenum tenders, providing certain support to the market. Recently, steel enterprises that have entered tenders for ferromolybdenum include Dongfang Special Steel, Nanjing Iron and Steel, Hengyang Valin Steel Pipe, and Henan Fengbao Special Steel, among others.

On the molybdenum chemical and its products market, overall wait-and-see sentiment was strong, mainly reflected in cautious trader mindsets, relatively small product price fluctuations, and few new orders. Today, the prices of ammonium tetramolybdate and molybdenum powder were approximately RMB 327,000/ton and RMB 615/kg, respectively.
