Molybdenum market update on September 20, 2026

Domestic molybdenum prices overall maintained a high-level sideways operation, with quotations for molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium tetramolybdate at around RMB 5,490/ton-degree, RMB 345,000/ton, and RMB 327,000/ton, respectively.

At the current price level, traders' enthusiasm for entering the market was stable, and the actual transaction pace was acceptable.

On the molybdenum concentrate market, the tight spot supply of raw materials has not yet eased. Coupled with stable downstream demand, suppliers' quotations generally remained firm.

On the ferromolybdenum market, the bargaining space for products was relatively small, mainly attributable to the difficulty in finding low-priced sources and strong price-cutting sentiment from steel enterprises, but order growth was good.

On the molybdenum chemical and its products market, the market condition was relatively weak. With end customers mostly focusing on rigid demand and holders facing a dilemma in quoting, product prices showed no significant changes for the time being, and new orders were limited.

In terms of news, monitoring data from the Jiangxi steel market and Fuzhou Trade Plaza steel market shows that in August, among the 44 monitored steel product varieties, sales prices showed 1 increase, 38 decreases, and 5 unchanged month-on-month. The average sales prices of wire rods (high wire 6.0, HPB300 and high wire 8, HPB300) were RMB 3,451.25/ton and RMB 3,321.25/ton, respectively, decreased by 0.97% and 0.95% month-on-month, and decreased by 4.86% and 4.70% year-on-year. The average sales price of rebar (φ12mm HRB400E) was RMB 3,218.75/ton, decreased by 1.90% month-on-month, and decreased by 4.17% year-on-year.
