This week, the overall domestic molybdenum market showed a high and strengthening trend, mainly reflected in the relatively large increase in raw material prices and the steady maintenance of actual transactions.

According to CTIA GROUP, the rise in molybdenum concentrate prices this week was not a steady increase, but rather a significant rise on September 16 driven by some molybdenum mining enterprises raising prices for shipments.

The main factors driving mining enterprises to raise quotations: first, affected by factors such as rising oil and gas prices, high mining difficulty, and declining ore grades, the output of some mining enterprises has contracted. Coupled with rising overseas molybdenum prices and declining molybdenum ore output in some countries such as Chile and Mongolia, China's imports of molybdenum products have been constrained, further tightening spot market supply; second, against the background of good development trends in emerging industries, the arrival of the traditional consumption peak season has, to a certain extent, increased downstream users' purchasing willingness.

According to CTIA GROUP statistics, this week, the price of molybdenum concentrate increased by RMB 50/ton-degree, up 0.92%; the price of ferromolybdenum increased by RMB 4,000/ton, up 1.17%; the price of molybdenum oxide increased by RMB 50/ton-degree, up 0.90%; the prices of sodium molybdate, ammonium heptamolybdate, and molybdenum powder showed no significant changes for the time being. It can be seen that the rise in raw material prices did not drive up the prices of molybdenum chemical products, which means that there is considerable resistance to further upward movement of molybdenum prices, and industry participants still have certain concerns about the future market.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in early September 2026, the steel product inventory of key monitored steel enterprises was 16.52 million tons, increased by 270,000 tons compared with the previous ten-day period, up 1.7%; increased by 2.38 million tons compared with the beginning of the year, up 16.8%; decreased by 660,000 tons compared with the same ten-day period of the previous month, down 3.8%; increased by 700,000 tons compared with the same ten-day period of last year, up 4.4%; increased by 1.55 million tons compared with the same ten-day period of the year before last, up 10.4%. Among them, steel product inventory in Northeast China increased by 200,000 tons, in East China increased by 150,000 tons, in Southwest China increased by 70,000 tons, in Central South China increased by 410,000 tons, in North China decreased by 520,000 tons, and in Northwest China decreased by 40,000 tons.
