Molybdenum market update on March 18, 2026

The domestic molybdenum market is generally maintaining a stable operation. With steady downstream demand and limited growth in raw material spot supply, product prices have not changed significantly, and market activity remains low.

Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferro-molybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate are stabilizing at RMB 4,430 per ton-degree, RMB 284,000 per ton, and RMB 283,000 per ton, respectively.

In the molybdenum concentrate market, the overall situation is one of stalemate. Although supported by strong production cost pressures and tightening raw material supply, suppliers are reluctant to lower prices for sales. However, due to the weak upward momentum of steel tender prices, there is similarly a lack of upward price pressure in the molybdenum concentrate market.

In the ferro-molybdenum market, the trading atmosphere is good, mainly due to the acceptable purchasing enthusiasm from steel mills and the willingness of intermediate smelting enterprises to sell. Steel enterprises such as Zhongtian Steel, Hengyang Hualing Steel Pipe, Xinxing Cast Pipe, Puyang Steel, Jiangsu Yonggang, and CITIC Pacific have already started their ferro-molybdenum tendering activities.

In the molybdenum chemical products market, with the raw material market remaining strong and the supply-demand balance relatively stable, the prices of molybdate, molybdenum powder, and molybdenum rods are fluctuating within a narrow range. The market atmosphere is one of caution and waiting.

According to news from the China Iron and Steel Association, data for early March 2026 shows that key steel enterprises produced a total of 18.45 million tons of steel, with an average daily output of 1.845 million tons, a decrease of 12.6% compared to the previous period. By region, the daily steel output in the Northeast decreased by 52,000 tons, in North China decreased by 77,000 tons, in East China decreased by 90,000 tons, in Northwest China decreased by 8,000 tons, in Central-South China decreased by 45,000 tons, and in Southwest China increased by 6,000 tons.
