Molybdenum, which is note by the symbol Mo) and the atomic number 42 on the periodic table, is a metallic element with the sixth-highest melting point. It is extremely hard and is often combined with other metals to produce blends that are extremely resilient to force. Molybdenum itself is often used in the production of mirrors which are subjected to high heat and dirty conditions, as they will not warp or scratch. Polishing molybdenum-blended steel can be done by following a few simple directions.
1.Wrap 400-grit emery paper around a sanding block and rub the molybdenum surface with it in even strokes. This should slightly dull the surface of the molybdenum. Create an evenly dull finish over the entire surface you wish to polish.
2.Repeat Step 1, replacing the 400-grit paper with increasingly finer grits until you reach the 1,000-grit paper. Ensure an even amount of finish is applied all over the area you wish to polish.
3.Apply green polishing compound to the polishing wheel of your angle grinder. With your molybdenum metal clamped tightly, polish it with the spinning wheel of the angle grinder in a circular pattern to bring it to a mirror finish.
