Using powder briquetting-sintering-secondary arc melting method to produce TZM alloy blank was processing hot extrusion in 600t upright extruding machine and extrusion ratio is 2~3. Besides, heating by using hydrogen furnace and the heating temperature is 1500℃~1600℃. After observing TZM alloy fracture phenomena found: on the front of the bar there is serious craze; on the end of bar there is deep shrinkage cavity and around through crack; circumferences surface has longitudinal crack and distribute at the end of alloy bar.
After analysis the reasons the fracture phenomena during extrusion process there come up with some method to fix this problem.
1. Increase extrusion temperature to improve alloy’s plasticity and withstand tensile stress destructive effect.
2. External environment absorb the heating will cause alloy blank temperature decrease so the plasticity of it also decrease. Increase mould and dummy block’s pre-heating temperature to prevent blank temperature decrease.
3. The diameter of blank should close to extrusion container’s to decrease upsetting deflection and to prevent blank surface cracks.
4. When the equipment capability is available try to increase extrusion ratio so the deformation of alloy can completely to prevent crack.
