In the early period, people usually used smelting-extrusion-forging method to produce titanium zirconium molybdenum alloy (TZM alloy). But with the development and perfection of powder metallurgic method and the shortage of smelting-extrusion-forging method that it not only has complicated technology but also the yield of it is low. So the smelting-extrusion-forging method had becoming obsolete in the production methods. However, with the development of technology, in the nuclear field, there are put a strict quality in carbon content and oxygen content. The requirement content of carbon is 0.01%~0.02% and oxygen is 0.002%~0.003%, and using powder metallurgic method to produce TZM alloy is hard to meet the standard, so people re-use metallurgy-extrusion-forging method to produce TZM alloy, but it also need to use secondary electron beam melting or secondary electric arc melting so it can deoxidize completely to meet the standard. After smelting, the obtained TZM alloy pig has big branch crystal and it need crash completely to forge, rolling and other follow-up processing. And there are a lot of factors effecting extrusion quality, such as extrusion temperature, pre-heating temperature of mould, externalities and so on.
