During sintering, TZM alloy occurs a series of physical and chemical changes, so that the aggregation powder particles which has porosity turned into an aggregate particle which has a certain porous (polycrystalline structure), so that the strength of the TZM alloy is improved. Besides, the strength increase of TZM alloy can be reflected in total number of voids and void volume reduction and void shape change.
Before entering the sintering stage (1800 ℃), the contact surface of aggregates powder particles in alloy billet will expand into bonding surface since the larger the amplitude atomic. Besides, it will expand to sintering neck. The original contact point or surface will turn into crystal combination. In this process, the particles and particle does not change and particle shape does change very much. What’s more particle TZM alloy billet doesn’t have significant contraction.
When the alloy in high temperature sintering stage, the atoms move to particle bonding surface with largely making sintering neck expand. The grain boundary in neck sintering area will move to either side of the crystal grains and the grains within the particles is also due to recrystallization so grew up together, resulting reduce the grain boundary. Because grain growth and grain boundary migrate across the pore forming obturator, so a large number of pores disappear, sintering shrinkage, density and strength increases.
