For room temperature brittle and high temperature oxidation resistance insufficient of titanium zirconium molybdenum alloy many scholars have done a lot of research to improve its performance deficiencies. For example, by properly controlling the annealing temperature improve room temperature elongation of alloy and reduce the tensile strength. In addition, adding alloy elements into TZM alloy can also improve its brittleness which is an effective way. Adding Re element raise many attention because Re can display strong "rhenium effect", it can not only improve the high temperature properties of TZM alloy and also can improve temperature performance of TZM alloy. However, this element is expensive, so seldom used in industry.
Adding Re element to produce titanium zirconium molybdenum alloy(TZM-Re) and then through a series of studies have found that a small amount of Re elements can react with matrix Mo occur solution, to form solid solution grains which is toughness and dense. Effectively improve room temperature toughness of TZM alloy. On the other hand, adding Re can suppresses the solution of Ti and Zr in the Mo, resulting in a large number of pores and a second phase particles to be concentrated around the Mo-Re alloys, have an adverse impact on its strength.
