Add different amount of Re element in titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy will cause different effect on structure of alloy. The TZM alloy which doesn’t add Re elements the organization is uniform. Besides, the pores and the second phase disperse uniformly. The TZM-Re alloy organization distribution uniform and has more dense grain structure, free of impurities and pores. And the regional distribution which the second phase dispersion has refines grain.
A large number of experiments show that, TZM alloy mainly using the dispersion strengthening of second phase and pores of and grain refinement to improve its high temperature brittleness. Ti, Zr and C elements presence at the solid solution, oxide or carbide type to form a second phase, enriched at the grain boundaries, hindering grain boundary migration, to achieve the effect of grain refinement, which is the main reason leading to room temperature brittleness. Adding Re elements, on the one hand the toughness of the alloy is improved. On the other hand, the formation of Re-Mo refinement of the original matrix grain, in the same external force, the grains dislocation slip away within a short, little happened dislocation pile of stress, and grains and grain boundary near the strain difference is small, uniform deformation, so the opportunity to cause cracking is small.
