Related some research reports, some researcher by adding a small hard carbide particles in titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy to improve the room temperature toughness and recrystallization temperature. But too much carbon element will destroy alloy other properties so there are few people in China to do this research. On the other hand, adding TiC / ZrC additives to improve room temperature and high temperature performance of alloy raise much attention in China.
Small amount of TiC/ZrC can react with oxygen within the alloy at high temperature to generate non- stoichiometric oxides or oxygen-containing carbides and CO / CO2 gas, reducing the oxygen content in the alloy TZM. So the density of the alloy can be improved. And the study found that, with the amount of TiC/ZrC increase, the relative density of alloy increase as well. Besides adding ZrC the relative density of alloy is higher than adding TiC’s. The main reason is because small amount of ZrC can remove the oxygen in TZM alloy body during sintering process.
