Small Amount of Tic Influence Titanium Zirconium Molybdenum Alloy’s Density

With the development of science and technology, there are strict requirement for all aspects performance of titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy. TZM alloy although has low temperature toughness, but strength decreases rapidly at high temperatures are not well meet the requirements of high temperature areas. Thus, some researchers by adding TiC/ZrC additive to produce Mo-Ti-Zr-TiC / ZrC alloy to improve its high temperature properties. As follow, there will introduce how small amount of TiC will influence TZM alloy relative density.
TZM alloy size relative density will influence by internal voids and oxygen is the main reason causing the grain pores. Besides the number of the oxygen content of the alloy has proportional basically within the pores. The study shows that TiC can react with oxygen easily at high temperatures. At the temperature which is higher than 1800℃, the TiC can react with oxygen to generate a non-stoichiometric oxide or containing carbide and CO/CO2. What’s more, these gases can be excluded from alloy body through continuous inter-particle pore network, so that the oxygen content of the alloy is lowered, increasing the density of TZM alloy.
