With the volume fraction increase of carbon fiber, the tensile strength of the C/TZM composite material increased first and then decreased. When the carbon fiber volume fraction is 2% the tensile strength is up 57.99 percent. But when the carbon fiber volume fraction is greater than 2%, with the increase of carbon fiber volume fraction, the tensile strength of the composite has fallen sharply.
The study found that the carbon fiber reinforced body has a larger aspect ratio and it can better bear and prevent crack propagation. If the fibers are completely wrapped by matrix, during fracture process, the stress can transfer from TZM matrix to carbon fiber, lead to carbon fiber breaking and debonding. If the carbon fiber and matrix are well combine so that any stress displacement of matrix will pass onto the carbon fibers. And if carbon fiber strength is much larger than the matrix so the carbon fiber will play a role in binding displacement. And the tensile strength of the composite material increase.
When the carbon fiber content is low, the fibers and matrix can closely so that the tensile strength of the material increases. However, there is serious debonding phenomenon when the carbon fiber volume fraction is too much, so that the tensile property of the composite material is reduced.
