Carbon Content Influence C/TZM Composite Material’s Hardness

The carbon fiber content will influence C/TZM composites material‘s mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile strength, impact toughness and so on. As follow we will introduce the how the carbon content influence C/TZM composites material‘s hardness.
According to research data found that with carbon fiber content increasing, hardness range appear interval features. That is hardness of composites will increase as the carbon fiber volume fraction increase and then decreased. When carbon fiber volume fraction arrived at 2%, the hardness of the composite increase20.13% and the hardness is the biggest. However, with the increase of carbon fiber volume fraction the composite hardness starts to decrease. When the volume fraction of the fiber content is 8% the hardness is the minimum.
This is mainly because small volume fraction carbon fiber can easily be embedded in the matrix and it can well combine with matrix, so it can play a well reinforcing effect. But when the fiber volume too large it is hard to compaction or easily to appear local fiber aggregate, so that the internal defects in material increases, resulting in hardness of the material falls.
