At room temperature, titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy exhibits strong low-temperature brittleness, the researchers add short carbon fiber in TZM alloy to solve this problem, and further enhance the strength of TZM alloy.
Currently, short fiber is the world's first choice for high-performance reinforcements and short carbon fiber has excellent mechanical properties and the density is small so it is an inexpensive metal matrix composites. Therefore it has received widespread attention and application. Currently, short carbon fiber reinforced aluminum matrix composites have become an ideal material for manufacturing satellites, space shuttles and other components.
Adding 2% to 8% volume fraction short carbon fibers to produce TZM alloy mainly use molybdenum powder as raw material, carbon fiber as a reinforcing phase. Meanwhile, TiH2, ZrH2 and carbon (graphite) as an additive and paraffin wax as a molding agent. Using powder metallurgy method to produce C/TZM composites material has four production processes: mixing, adding molding agent, molding and sintering.
