Titanium Zirconium Molybdenum Alloy Aluminide Coating

Titanium zirconium molybdenum alloy is the most widely used high-temperature materials, but because of its poor oxidation resistance, so greatly limits its application. In order to improve the oxidation resistance of TZM alloy so people use alloy and coating method to prevent or limit the oxygen into the TZM substrate, thereby improving the high temperature oxidation resistance of TZM alloy. Commonly used high temperature oxidation resistant coating has aluminum coatings and silicide coatings, the following describes the aluminide coating.
The researcher used pack cementation to produce aluminide coating. They use NH4Cl as a catalyst and aluminum powder as coating material, so to produce aluminum coating on TZM alloy substrate. TZM alloy after 12h heat treatment at 1000℃, the coating thickness about 50um and combine with Al5Mo, Al7Mo4, Al2 (MoO4) 3 and other phases which divided into outer and inner layers. Close to the substrate coating average thickness is about 30um and the outer layer average thickness is about 20um. The outer surface of the coating layer is particulate and this structure can form a good interlocking between the coating particles, so that the coating has a good oxidation resistance and wear resistance.
