There are many ways to strengthen titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy and to add short fibers is an effective method of strengthening a TZM alloy. Currently, researchers doing a lot of researches about carbon fiber reinforced titanium zirconium molybdenum matrix composites. And to well know understand the sintering atmosphere the carbon fiber how can influence TZM alloy. The average size of short carbon fiber test is between Ø5um × (2 ~ 3) mm.
The following are the results of the study found:
1. Under a hydrogen atmosphere, the heat treatment temperature at 1500 ℃, the carbon fiber surface has a lot of holes and depressions. There are nearly half of products erosion and the tensile strength of only 1/5 of original.
2. Under argon atmosphere, the heat treatment temperature at 1500 ℃, the carbon fiber surface and fracture has no obvious crack. When the temperature at 1800 ℃, the carbon fiber surface has fluffy attachments and small pits. Besides, mass ablation rate of carbon fiber is small and tensile strength is down a lot.
3. TZM composite material has fine grains when add the carbon fiber in it.
