Titanium Zirconium Molybdenum Alloy Antioxidant Property

Titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy is the most commercial uses high-temperature alloys, compared with molybdenum which has better mechanical properties, therefore TZM alloy in the fields of military, aerospace, high temperature structural components have been widely used. But TZM alloy’s antioxidant property is poor and unable to form a protective oxide layer. By studying the experimental data found when the temperatures below 400 ℃, TZM alloy oxidation rate is very slow and the alloy surface generate less volatile MoO2. When the temperature is between 400~750 ℃, the oxidation increase rapid increase to generate volatile MoO2. When the temperature higher than 750 ℃, since MoO3 is easy volatile so oxidation increase are rapid decrease. Therefore using TZM alloy at high temperatures must be in a non-oxidizing atmosphere.
At present, to improve oxidation resistance of the alloy has alloying and coating method. But alloying methods generally do not provide sufficient high-temperature oxidation resistance, so in order to improve the high temperature oxidation resistance of TZM alloy coatings are used mostly.
