Currently, there are many methods for producing titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy, such as powder metallurgy method, low-carbon arc melting method and thermite reaction method. The following will introduce using thermite reaction method to produce TZM alloy. This method differs from the traditional production method. Because it using oxide as raw material directly which will reduce the cost of raw materials. Besides the alloy which produces by this way not only has high hardness, but also has good workability after hot rolling. At the same time, the composite of Al and Si on TZM alloy surface will improve TZM alloy high temperature oxidation resistance. However, this method also has some drawbacks, namely component adjustments and impurity removal process are relatively complex.
The specific steps of using thermite reaction method to produce TZM alloy are as follows:
1. MoO2, TiO2 and ZrO2 as a raw material, Al as a reducing agent, CaO as solvent, during the reaction add a certain amount of C, and then after thermite reaction to produce the alloy reaction body.
2. Then put the alloy reaction body in arc melting furnace under argon protection to obtain TZM blanks.
3. The blanks after hot-rolled and annealed 6 hours at 100℃ obtained TZM alloy.
