The high oxygen content of titanium zirconium molybdenum (TZM) alloy will increase the risk which the carbide will transform to oxide. On one hand, oxide increase will waken dispersion strengthening lead to tensile strength and elongation decrease sharply. On the other hand, high oxygen content will cause P/ M-TZM alloy can not be used in high temperature and high vacuum environment, and it is because the oxygen and carbon of alloy will reactions to produce CO which will destroy the vacuum environment. Therefore, in order to produce good performance TZM alloy must be strictly controlled TZM alloy oxygen content.
After research, there are many ways to reduce TZM alloy oxygen content, such as:
1. The oxygen content of molybdenum powder should control to a minimum, such as (200~600)×10-6.
2. Reduce oxygen adsorption during doping, mixing flour, pressing process.
3. Reduce the Ti/Zr oxide formation by thermodynamics, or using strong reducing element reduces Ti/Zr oxide.
4. Adjust the sintering process which controlled oxygen content.
