Molybdenite was a lead gray, with metallic luster sulfide minerals, low hardness. The chemical formula of it is MoS2 and the molecular weight is 160.07. Besides it has different types, belonging to the hexagonal and trigonal crystal system. Which contains 59.94% molybdenum, and it is the most important mineral raw materials for extracted molybdenum. While often containing rhenium, molybdenite is a natural mineral known to contain the highest rhenium and is an important mineral raw material to extract rhenium. Its associated system numbers are as follows: CAS registry number: 1309-56-4, EINECS number: 215-172-4.
American Colorado state is world famous mineral molybdenite, while China has leapt to the forefront of the world's molybdenite total reserves, which produce molybdenite provinces: Henan, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Liaoning and other provinces and other places.
Molybdenite is mainly used for refining molybdenum, manufacturing molybdenum steel, molybdic acid, molybdates and other molybdenum compounds. Mineralogist believes molybdenite deposit which has industrial value associated with hot liquid underground, of which the most widely distributed in quartz veins or quartz-based rocks.
