Molybdenum market update on October 12, 2026

At the beginning of the week, the overall domestic molybdenum market maintained stable operation. Under the interplay of bullish and bearish factors, the mindsets of buyers and sellers differed slightly, product prices showed no significant fluctuations for the time being, and actual transactions were relatively few.

Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate were approximately RMB 5,460/ton-degree, RMB 342,000/ton, and RMB 333,000/ton, respectively.

According to CTIA GROUP, bullish factors include: first, the relatively slow production capacity release of some molybdenum mining enterprises, coupled with stable downstream rigid demand, has to a certain extent boosted holders' confidence in supporting prices; second, the stabilization and rebound of international molybdenum prices is conducive to the warming of the domestic molybdenum market. Bearish factors include: first, the current relatively high molybdenum prices and tight working capital of downstream enterprises have led to relatively few market inquiries; second, although the development trend of high-end manufacturing is good, industry participants still have concerns about the future market, and buyers are relatively cautious in procurement.

In terms of news, data from the World Steel Association shows that in August 2026, China's crude steel production was 74.61 million tons, decreased by 3.7% year-on-year; India's crude steel production was 14.8 million tons, increased by 4.6% year-on-year; the estimated crude steel production of the United States was 7.3 million tons, increased by 3.0% year-on-year; and Japan's crude steel production was 6.7 million tons, increased by 0.4% year-on-year.
