Molybdenum market update on October 10, 2026

The overall domestic molybdenum market showed a high-level weak trend, mainly manifested in slight price declines of some molybdenum products, slow order growth, and somewhat insufficient confidence among industry participants in the future market.

Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate and ferromolybdenum decreased by approximately RMB 20/ton-degree and RMB 1,000/ton, respectively.

On the molybdenum concentrate market, buying and selling activity was relatively light. Affected by the poor performance of the overseas molybdenum market during the National Day holiday and fewer downstream inquiries after the holiday, suppliers generally lowered their quotations.

On the ferromolybdenum market, product prices continued to edge down, mainly attributable to strong price-cutting sentiment among steel enterprises and insufficient driving capability from the molybdenum concentrate market. Today, steel tender prices were around RMB 340,000/ton.

On the molybdenum chemical and its products market, the market condition was stable. Against the background of a relatively balanced supply-demand pattern and limited room for raw material price declines, the prices of ammonium tetramolybdate, molybdenum powder, and molybdenum bars were around RMB 327,000/ton, RMB 615/kg, and RMB 620/kg, respectively.

In terms of news, data from the World Steel Association shows that in August 2026, global crude steel production from 70 countries/regions included in the World Steel Association statistics was 144.2 million tons, decreased by 1.2% year-on-year. Among them, African crude steel production was 2.1 million tons, increased by 8.8% year-on-year; Asian and Oceanian countries/regions crude steel production was 106.7 million tons, decreased by 1.4% year-on-year; EU (27 countries) crude steel production was 8.9 million tons, decreased by 1.0% year-on-year; Middle Eastern crude steel production was 3.7 million tons, decreased by 4.6% year-on-year; and South American crude steel production was 3.4 million tons, decreased by 4.9% year-on-year.
