Molybdenum market update on August 7, 2026

This week, the overall domestic molybdenum market maintained stable operation.

On the bullish side, first, tight spot supply of raw materials and downstream users mainly purchasing on rigid demand prompted suppliers to have strong willingness to hold back sales and support prices; second, the rising international molybdenum market provided assistance for the recovery of the domestic market. Today, the international molybdenum oxide price was approximately USD 33.3/lb Mo, and the European ferromolybdenum price was approximately USD 75.2/kg Mo. On the bearish side, factors such as the off-season, tight working capital, and the current relatively high prices of molybdenum products all greatly suppressed the rise in downstream users' consumption desire.

According to CTIA GROUP statistics, this week, the price of molybdenum concentrate increased by approximately RMB 20/ton-degree, up 0.37%; the price of ferromolybdenum increased by approximately RMB 1,000/ton, up 0.30%; the price of molybdenum oxide increased by approximately RMB 40/ton-degree, up 0.74%; the prices of sodium molybdate, ammonium heptamolybdate, and molybdenum powder showed no significant fluctuations for the time being. It can be seen that the price fluctuations of molybdenum raw materials this week were greater than those of molybdenum chemical products.

In terms of news, the China Iron and Steel Association stated that in the next stage, the steel export license management system should be strictly implemented, closely following the guidance of "promoting high-end products, stabilizing neighboring markets, and strengthening supervision," strengthening industry self-discipline, optimizing export structure, deeply cultivating neighboring and emerging markets, actively responding to trade frictions, proactively adapting to international rules, promoting the transformation of exports toward high-end and green development, and achieving stable and orderly growth.
