The overall domestic molybdenum market remained in a stalemate operation, mainly manifested in relatively small price changes of most products and limited actual transaction volumes.

Today, the transaction prices of molybdenum oxide, ferromolybdenum, and molybdenum powder were carried out around RMB 5,470/ton-degree, RMB 337,000/ton, and RMB 608/kg, respectively.

From the perspective of bullish factors, first, affected by the Middle East conflict and the obstruction of the Strait of Hormuz shipping channel, the global energy supply chain is under pressure, pushing international oil prices upward. Coupled with the current traditional consumption off-season, many molybdenum manufacturers have chosen production cuts and maintenance shutdowns. Second, as mineral resource supervision and ecological environmental protection control continue to intensify, mining constraints on molybdenum mining enterprises have become stricter, resulting in limited increases in spot market supply. The "Implementation Regulations of the Mineral Resources Law of the People's Republic of China" has been in effect since June 15, 2026. Third, the international molybdenum market is stable with a slight strengthening trend, which is beneficial to the warming of the domestic molybdenum market; today, the international molybdenum oxide price is approximately USD 33.2/lb Mo.

From the perspective of bearish factors, the current relatively high prices of molybdenum products, upward pressure on steel tender prices, and the month-on-month increase in mainstream steel social inventory in late July have slowed down the pace of rigid demand procurement for ferromolybdenum. Coupled with limited market liquidity, downstream demand has further cooled down.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that from January to June 2026, China's cumulative exports of steel products were 54.874 million tons, decreased by 5.6% year-on-year; the average export price was USD 701.1/ton, slightly increased by 0.3% year-on-year. From January to June, China's cumulative imports of steel products were 2.696 million tons, decreased by 11.3% year-on-year; the average import price was USD 1,796.4/ton, increased by 5.3% year-on-year. In June, China's exports of steel products were 10.32 million tons, decreased by 0.2% month-on-month; the average export price was USD 710.8/ton, increased by 1.9% month-on-month. In June, China's imports of steel products were 441,000 tons, decreased by 2.2% month-on-month; the average import price was USD 1,925.8/ton, increased by 14.1% month-on-month.
