Molybdenum market update on July 29, 2026

The overall domestic molybdenum market maintained a high-level weak operation, mainly because the previous volatile upward trend of molybdenum product prices and the gradual weakening of bullish support exacerbated downstream users' concerns about high prices while weakening suppliers' confidence in raising prices.

However, due to strong production cost support and limited increases in spot market supply, holders have relatively small room for concessions. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate were approximately RMB 5,340/ton-degree, RMB 334,000/ton, and RMB 330,000/ton, respectively.

According to CTIA GROUP statistics, since July, the price of molybdenum concentrate has increased by approximately RMB 160/ton-degree, up 3.09%; the price of ferromolybdenum has increased by approximately RMB 8,000/ton, up 2.45%; the price of molybdenum oxide has increased by approximately RMB 180/ton-degree, up 3.44%; the price of sodium molybdate has increased by approximately RMB 6,000/ton, up 2.67%; and the price of molybdenum powder has increased by approximately RMB 13/kg, up 2.18%.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in mid-July 2026, key monitored steel enterprises produced a total of 19.29 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 1.929 million tons, increased by 2.5% month-on-month in daily output. By region, the daily output of steel products in Northeast China increased by 13,000 tons, in North China increased by 15,000 tons, in Southwest China increased by 1,000 tons, in Central South China increased by 24,000 tons, in East China decreased by 3,000 tons, and in Northwest China decreased by 4,000 tons.
