Molybdenum market update on July 24, 2026
The overall domestic molybdenum market maintained a high-level volatile operation. Under a relatively balanced supply and demand pattern, mainstream product prices fluctuated within a narrow range, trading atmosphere in the market was generally moderate, and new orders were limited.
However, due to the difficulty of increasing future spot market supply and the promising development prospects of the molybdenum downstream industry, most industry participants have considerable confidence in the future market.
On the molybdenum concentrate market, wait-and-see sentiment gradually intensified, mainly attributed to downstream users basically purchasing on demand and suppliers having limited room for concessions. Tight spot market supply and strong production cost support are important sources of motivation supporting holders' confidence in holding back sales and maintaining prices.
On the ferromolybdenum market, overall performance showed a high-level downward trend. With a decline in steel tender prices and volumes, many suppliers' confidence in maintaining stable prices loosened. However, due to the difficulty of sourcing low-priced molybdenum concentrate, intermediate smelting enterprises had relatively low willingness to significantly lower their quotations. Today, the price of ferromolybdenum decreased by approximately RMB 1,000/ton.
On the molybdenum chemical and its products market, the market condition was relatively stable. With limited driving capability from the upstream market and weak initiative in inquiries and purchases from end customers, holders' quotations were relatively stable. Today, the prices of sodium molybdate, ammonium heptamolybdate, and molybdenum powder were approximately RMB 231,000/ton, RMB 330,000/ton, and RMB 608/kg, respectively.
