Molybdenum market update on July 6, 2026

On Monday, the overall domestic molybdenum market maintained a high and stable operation, mainly attributable to robust downstream demand and strong sentiment among suppliers to hold back sales and support prices.

Under this market condition, transaction pace was slow, while most industry participants still maintained strong confidence in the future market. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate are approximately RMB 5,260/ton-degree, RMB 328,000/ton, and RMB 322,000/ton, respectively. Recently, steel enterprises that have called for tenders for ferromolybdenum include Jiangyin Xinxing Special Steel, Angang Steel, CITIC Heavy Industries, Shanxi Taigang, Shangang Rizhao, etc., with tender prices around RMB 320,000/ton.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in late June 2026, the social inventory of steel products in five major categories across 21 cities was 9.35 million tons, increased by 10,000 tons month-on-month, up 0.1%, with small inventory fluctuations; increased by 2.14 million tons from the beginning of the year, up 29.7%; increased by 1.66 million tons compared with the same period last year, up 21.6%. Among them, in Central China, North China, and Northeast China, the month-on-month inventory increases were all 40,000 tons, with Northeast China being the region with the largest increase; South China was the region with the largest decrease, and Southwest China was the region with the largest decline; inventory in Northwest China remained flat month-on-month.
