Molybdenum market update on June 25, 2026

The overall domestic molybdenum market maintains stable operation. Against the background of interweaving bullish and bearish factors, buyers and sellers have intense price negotiations, product price bargaining space is small, and order growth is slow.

Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate are approximately RMB 5,180/ton-degree, RMB 325,000/ton, and RMB 320,000/ton, respectively.

In the molybdenum concentrate market, the trading atmosphere on site is relatively light, mainly due to the rigid demand of downstream users and the low willingness of suppliers to reduce prices for shipments. In the ferromolybdenum market, the overall wait-and-see sentiment is strong. Factors such as the weak overseas molybdenum market and the difficulty in increasing steel tender prices jointly cause intermediate smelting enterprises to generally maintain firm quotations. Recently, steel enterprises have offered prices for ferromolybdenum at around RMB 316,000/ton. In the molybdenum chemical and products market, the market situation shows no significant change for the time being. Against the background of a relatively balanced supply and demand relationship, product prices are mainly adjusted according to changes in the upstream market.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) shows that in mid-June, the social inventory of five major steel product varieties in 21 cities was 9.34 million tons, decreased by 40,000 tons month-on-month, a decrease of 0.4%; increased by 2.13 million tons compared to the beginning of the year, an increase of 29.5%; increased by 1.58 million tons compared to the same period last year, an increase of 20.4%. Among them, East China was the region with the largest decrease in quantity, Central China was the region with the largest decrease percentage, and Southwest China was the region with the largest increase in both quantity and percentage.
