Molybdenum market update on May 28, 2026

The domestic molybdenum market as a whole showed a trend of stabilizing and rebounding, with the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum and sodium molybdate increasing by approximately RMB 30/ton-degree, RMB 3,000/ton and RMB 2,000/ton, respectively.

This round of price rebound was mainly driven by the recovery from the previous market correction, changes in market supply and demand, and cost support. Over the previous two weeks, domestic molybdenum prices continued to decline, forcing suppliers to strengthen their profit awareness. Meanwhile, spot supply in the market became tight, coupled with strong production cost support, and multiple factors jointly pushed molybdenum product prices to stabilize and rise.

According to statistics from CTIA GROUP, from May 15 to 27, the price of molybdenum concentrate decreased by RMB 300/ton-degree, a decrease of 5.71%; ferromolybdenum price decreased by RMB 23,000/ton, a decrease of 6.87%; molybdenum oxide price decreased by RMB 300/ton-degree, a decrease of 5.61%; sodium molybdate price decreased by RMB 9,000/ton, a decrease of 3.90%; ammonium tetramolybdate price decreased by RMB 7,000/ton, a decrease of 2.24%; ammonium heptamolybdate price decreased by RMB 7,000/ton, a decrease of 2.22%; molybdenum powder price decreased by RMB 10/kg, a decrease of 1.66%; molybdenum powder price decreased by RMB 10/kg, a decrease of 1.64%.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association showed that in mid-May 2026, key statistical steel enterprises produced a total of 20.07 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 2.007 million tons, and the daily output increased by 3.3% month-on-month. By region, the daily output of steel products in Northeast China increased by 24,000 tons, East China increased by 26,000 tons, Northwest China increased by 2,000 tons, Southwest China increased by 1,000 tons, Central and South China increased by 13,000 tons, while North China decreased by 2,000 tons.
