Molybdenum market update on April 1, 2026

The domestic molybdenum market continues to operate in a steady and slightly strong manner.

With steel bidding volumes and prices being acceptable and limited room for raw material suppliers to offer discounts, the prices of most products have not shown significant changes. The prices of molybdenum concentrate and ammonium heptamolybdate are approximately RMB 4,420/ton-degree and RMB 283,000/ton, respectively, while the price of ferromolybdenum increased by approximately RMB 2,000/ton.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) shows that in mid-March 2026, the inventory of steel held by key steel enterprises was 17.91 million tons, a 0.6% increase compared to the previous period, a 26.7% increase compared to the beginning of the year, a 1.2% decrease compared to the same period last month, a 5.9% increase compared to the same period last year, and an 8.3% decrease compared to the same period two years ago. Among the six major regions, except for Southwest and Central South regions, where the steel inventory of key enterprises decreased compared to the previous period, and East China and Northwest regions, where inventory levels remained largely unchanged, all other regions saw varying degrees of increase. Specifically, the steel inventory in Northeast China increased by 60,000 tons, in North China it increased by 210,000 tons, in Southwest China it decreased by 120,000 tons, in Central South China it decreased by 50,000 tons, East China’s steel inventory remained largely unchanged compared to the previous period, and Northwest China’s steel inventory also remained largely unchanged.
