Molybdenum market update on March 30, 2026

On Monday, the domestic molybdenum market maintained a firm performance.

With good downstream demand and tightening raw material supply, traders' quotes remained generally stable. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate were about RMB 4,400 per ton-degree, RMB 280,000 per ton, and RMB 283,000 per ton, respectively. Recently, steel companies bidding for ferromolybdenum included CITIC Heavy Industries, Dongfang Special Steel, Zhongtian Steel, Changshu Longteng, Shouguang Juneng Special Steel, Hualing Steel Pipe, Wugang Xiangyang Heavy Equipment, and Xinxing Special Steel. The bidding price was around RMB 278,000 per ton. As of now, the total amount of ferromolybdenum purchased through steel tenders in March is about 15,000 tons.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) shows that in mid-March 2026, key steel enterprises produced a total of 20.27 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily production of 202,700 tons, an increase of 0.8% compared to the previous period. Among the six major regions, except for the Northeast and North China regions, where the daily crude steel production of key enterprises decreased compared to the previous period, other regions saw varying degrees of increase. Specifically, the East China region's crude steel daily output increased by 17,000 tons, the Northwest region increased by 6,000 tons, the Southwest region increased by 3,000 tons, and the Central-South region increased by 1,000 tons. The Northeast region's crude steel daily output decreased by 3,000 tons, and the North China region's daily output decreased by 8,000 tons.
