Molybdenum market update on March 9, 2026

On Monday, the domestic molybdenum market maintained overall stability. With supply and demand relatively balanced and no significant news in the industry, product prices remained within a narrow range.

Market trading atmosphere was generally calm, and order growth was slow. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate were approximately RMB 4,460 per ton-degree, RMB 287,000 per ton, and RMB 279,000 per ton, respectively. Recently, steel enterprises participating in the ferromolybdenum bidding include Shandong Steel Rizhao, Guangdong Shaogang, Zhongnan Shares, Hebei Steel Wugang, and others.

In terms of news, data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) shows that in the second half of February 2026, the inventory of steel products in key statistical steel enterprises was 17.34 million tons, a decrease of 780,000 tons or 4.3% compared to the previous ten days. It increased by 3.2 million tons or 22.6% compared to the beginning of the year. It increased by 2.63 million tons or 17.9% compared to the same period last month. It increased by 1.03 million tons or 6.3% compared to the same period last year. It decreased by 680,000 tons or 3.8% compared to the same period two years ago. By region, steel inventories in Northeast China decreased by 530,000 tons, in North China decreased by 120,000 tons, in Southwest China decreased by 230,000 tons, in Central and Southern China decreased by 250,000 tons, in East China increased by 150,000 tons, and in Northwest China increased by 200,000 tons.
