Molybdenum market update on March 6, 2026

This week, the domestic molybdenum market remained stable at a high level, mainly due to insufficient driving force for suppliers to increase their quotes again and the lack of significant growth in downstream demand.

The large increase in molybdenum prices during the first week after the Chinese New Year and the general trend in the international molybdenum market are the reasons why product prices are difficult to continue rising recently. Meanwhile, with the current ideal selling price of molybdenum concentrates, molybdenum mining companies generally have a strong willingness to take profits.

According to statistics from CTIA GROUP LTD, this week the price of molybdenum concentrate increased by RMB 10 per ton-degree, an increase of 0.22%; the price of ferromolybdenum increased by RMB 2,000 per ton, an increase of 0.70%; the prices of sodium molybdate and ammonium heptamolybdate remained stable; the price of molybdenum powder increased by RMB 3 per kilogram, an increase of 0.57%; the price of molybdenum oxide increased by RMB 10 per ton-degree, an increase of 0.22%.

In terms of news: Price monitoring data from the Jiangxi steel market and Fuzhou Trade Plaza steel market show that, for the 44 steel products monitored in January, 19 saw an increase, 20 decreased, and 5 remained stable. The average sales price of wire rods (high line 6.5, HPB300 and high line 8, HPB300) were RMB 3,616.25 per ton and RMB 3,488.75 per ton, respectively, with a month-on-month increase of 0.87% and 0.95%, and a year-on-year decrease of 2.40% and 2.99%. The average sales price of rebar (φ12mm HRB400E) was RMB 3,338.75 per ton, with a month-on-month increase of 1.11% and a year-on-year decrease of 4.44%.
