Molybdenum market update on March 4, 2026

The overall domestic molybdenum market remains firm.

Against the backdrop of a complex and ever-changing macro environment and relatively balanced supply and demand fundamentals, the consistency of negotiations between buyers and sellers is relatively low, product price increases are limited, and actual transaction volumes are constrained.

In the molybdenum concentrate market, trading activity within the market is relatively active. With current selling prices being relatively favorable and downstream demand stable, most molybdenum mining enterprises show a strong willingness to ship products. In the ferromolybdenum market, product prices are tentatively increasing, mainly due to steel enterprises gradually initiating ferromolybdenum tender procurement and strong cost support. In the molybdenum chemical and related product market, the overall sentiment remains cautious. Influenced by the slow trading pace of traders and strong upstream price support, prices of molybdenum salts, molybdenum powder, and molybdenum bars are all being adjusted within a reasonable range.

Regarding news, data from the China Iron & Steel Association (CISA) indicate that in January, production of medium and heavy plate rolling mills and cold strip mills among key monitored enterprises increased year-on-year, while production from hot strip mills decreased year-on-year. Specifically, medium and heavy plate rolling mills produced 6.26 million ton of extra-thick and medium-thick plates in January, increased by 60,000 ton year-on-year, a growth of 0.9%. Hot strip mills produced 15.89 million ton in January, decreased by 40,000 ton year-on-year, a decline of 0.3%. Cold strip mills produced 6.82 million ton in January, increased by 100,000 ton year-on-year, a growth of 1.5%.
