Molybdenum market update on March 3, 2026

The domestic molybdenum market has generally maintained stable operations at a high level.

With suppliers showing a low willingness to reduce prices and downstream users mostly maintaining demand-based purchases, product prices have fluctuated slightly within a reasonable range, with order growth slowing. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium molybdate are around RMB 4,450 per ton-degree, RMB 285,000 per ton, and RMB 283,000 per ton, respectively, showing little movement.

From a favorable perspective, first, global geopolitical risks have increased, boosting market risk-aversion sentiment and driving the prices of oil, natural gas, precious metals, and most strategic metals upward, which has significantly strengthened molybdenum suppliers' confidence in holding prices; second, after the Spring Festival, steel companies and other molybdenum downstream producers have increased their operating rates, leading to a higher demand for molybdenum; third, during the Spring Festival holiday, some molybdenum manufacturers voluntarily reduced production, resulting in limited raw material spot supply in the current market, which further supports the price quotes of stockholders.

From a negative perspective, first, since January, the prices of most molybdenum products have risen significantly, causing a decrease in purchasing capacity, and the trading activity in the market has struggled to increase; second, the international molybdenum market remains weak, which exerts some downward pressure on domestic molybdenum prices and is not conducive to further market growth.

According to CTIA GROUP LTD statistics, as of the time of publication, the price of molybdenum concentrate has increased by approximately RMB 650 per ton-degree, an increase of 17.11%; the price of ferromolybdenum has increased by approximately RMB 38,000 per ton, an increase of 15.38%; the price of molybdenum oxide has increased by approximately RMB 700 per ton-degree, an increase of 18.18%; the price of sodium molybdate has increased by approximately RMB 27,000 per ton, an increase of 15.43%; the price of ammonium heptamolybdate has increased by approximately RMB 44,000 per ton, an increase of 18.72%; the price of ammonium molybdate has increased by approximately RMB 43,000 per ton, an increase of 17.92%; the price of molybdenum powder has increased by approximately RMB 78 per kilogram, an increase of 17.26%; the price of molybdenum rods has increased by approximately RMB 81 per kilogram, an increase of 17.84%.
