Molybdenum market update on February 28, 2026

The first week after the Spring Festival, the domestic molybdenum market overall performed well, mainly attributed to increased enthusiasm among downstream users for inquiries and procurement, heightened geopolitical risks overseas prompting upward valuation of strategic metals, reduced output at some domestic molybdenum manufacturers, and favorable development trends in molybdenum downstream industries such as military and high-end equipment.

According to CTIA GROUP LTD statistics, in the first week after the Spring Festival, molybdenum concentrate prices increased by approximately RMB 280 per tonne-degree, up 6.71%; ferromolybdenum prices increased by approximately RMB 14,000/ton, up 5.17%; sodium molybdate prices increased by approximately RMB 13,000/ton, up 6.88%; ammonium tetramolybdate prices increased by approximately RMB 20,000/ton, up 7.72%; ammonium heptamolybdate prices increased by approximately RMB 19,000/ton, up 7.20%; molybdenum powder prices increased by approximately RMB 30/kg, up 6.00%; molybdenum bar prices increased by approximately RMB 33/kg, up 6.57%; molybdenum oxide prices increased by approximately RMB 310 per tonne-degree, up 7.31%.

On the news front: Data from the United States Geological Survey show that in 2025, global molybdenum production was approximately 260,000 tons, unchanged year-on-year. Among them, China's molybdenum production was approximately 97,000 tons, decreased by 11.82% year-on-year, accounting for 37.31% of global total production; Chile's molybdenum production was approximately 42,000 tons, increased by 10.53% year-on-year, accounting for 16.15% of global total production; U.S. molybdenum production was approximately 40,000 tons, increased by 18% year-on-year, accounting for 15.38% of global total production.
