Molybdenum market update on February 9, 2026

On Monday, the domestic molybdenum market overall maintained a relatively strong operation.

With strong reluctance among suppliers to sell while holding bullish sentiment, steady downstream demand, and relatively favorable trends in the international molybdenum market, most product prices rose slightly, with acceptable transaction volume. Today, molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate prices increased by approximately RMB 20 per tonne-degree, RMB 1,000/ton, and RMB 4,000/ton respectively. Recently, steel enterprises entering the market to tender for ferromolybdenum include Guangdong Shaogang, Pangang Group, Lingyuan Iron & Steel, Shandong Iron & Steel Laiwu, Shougang Group, etc.

On the news front: Data from the China Iron and Steel Association show that in late January 2026, key statistical steel enterprises produced a total of 21.28 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 1.935 million tons, daily output decreased by 2.2% month-on-month; pig iron 19.15 million tons, average daily output 1.741 million tons, daily output decreased by 3.0% month-on-month; steel products 21.30 million tons, average daily output 1.936 million tons, daily output increased by 3.2% month-on-month. Based on this estimation, national daily crude steel output this ten-day period was 2.39 million tons, decreased by 2.2% month-on-month; daily pig iron output 2.10 million tons, decreased by 3.0% month-on-month; daily steel product output 3.98 million tons, increased by 1.3% month-on-month.
