China molybdenum price showed a downward trend in the week ended on Friday April 14, 2023 mainly due to the slightly increased supply of molybdenum raw materials, the strong sentiment of downstream users to suppress prices, the lack of confidence of suppliers in stabilizing prices, and the unstoppable drop in overseas molybdenum prices. 

However, under this situation, the enthusiasm of buyers to enter the market has increased, and some stainless steel enterprises have gradually resumed production recently, which can increase the demand for ferromolybdenum to a large extent.

According to Chinatungsten Online, the price of ferromolybdenum dropped by about 16,000 yuan/ton this week, a drop of 7.58%; molybdenum concentrate dropped by about 380 yuan/ton, a drop of 12.34%; ammonium molybdate dropped about 13,000 yuan/ton, a drop of 6.22%; molybdenum powder dropped about 50 yuan/kg, a drop of 11.63%; molybdenum oxide dropped about 370 yuan/ton, a drop of 11.64%.

In March, affected by the continuous decline in steel prices, many stainless steel factories began to reduce production and stop production in order to reduce the risk of cost inversion. Through the industry chain transmission, the price of ferromolybdenum has also been falling since March. However, as the temperature rises, the development of downstream steel industries such as construction and infrastructure has also accelerated, which in turn has prompted an increase in the production speed of some stainless steel plants, which is conducive to the increase in demand for ferromolybdenum.

In terms of news: According to data from the Jiangxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the average sales price of 44 steel varieties monitored in the first quarter of 2023 rose by 41 and fell by 3 from the previous month, and by 0 and by 44 from the same period last year. Up 44 down. In the first quarter, the average sales prices of wire rods (High Line 6.5, HPB300 and High Line 8, HPB300) were 4,575.22 yuan/ton and 4,705.22 yuan/ton, respectively, up 5.45% and 5.29% month-on-month, and down 11.91% and 10.70% year-on-year, respectively. The average sales prices in March were 4664.00 yuan/ton and 4794.00 yuan/ton, respectively, a slight increase of 1.61% and 1.57% month-on-month, and a year-on-year decrease of 11.35% and 10.16% respectively. In the first quarter, the average sales price of rebar (φ12mm HRB400E) was 4322.56 yuan/ton, up 5.10% month-on-month and down 12.81% year-on-year.
