China molybdenum price continued its downward trend at the end of 2018, greatly affected by the decline in prices and quantity of steel tenders. Prices of ferromolybdenum, sodium molybdate and ammonium molybdate dropped slightly in the week to Tuesday December 25.
Spot supply of mines remains tight under the environmental protection policy. But for ferromolybdenum manufacturers, the sale prices tend to lower than the production costs. So most manufacturers transfer their pressure to the cost side. In addition, companies are not active in trading as they face capital pressure at the end of the year. Molybdenum concentrate prices come under pressure. At the last trading week of 2018, market participants mainly focus on the offer levels of large enterprises and steel biddings.
