While direct molybdenum oxidation reduction can be conducted naturally or by laboratory testing, batch-type operations meanwhile continue to be less successful mainly because of the inability to control the process itself. Exposing the element to direct heat rather transforms it into form of volatile molybdenum oxide or a non-friable mass, making it useless. Current methods in reducing molybdenum oxide meanwhile continue to be expensive in terms of labor and energy, thus making the process non-feasible for commercial use.
