Applications of Molybdenum Disilicide (MoSi2)
1.Heating Elements
MoSi2 heating elements can operate at an temperature of 1700℃ to 1900℃ in air and oxidizing environments. The major problems for these heating elements are brittle fracture and with high temperature creep. Both of these aspects limit the service life as well as affect furnace design.
2. Aerospace Gas Turbine Engines
MoSi2 possess significant thermal shock resistance and absorbs significant impact energy at both room temperature and elevated temperatures, which effectively extend the service life.
3. Diesel Engines
MoSi2 is highly resistant to the diesel fuel combustion environment and can be heated at higher heating rates with the result that the diesel engine can be started faster.
4. Industrial Gas Burners
The gas burner industry is in the process of developing burners for oxygen-natural gas mixtures. Studies have shown that MoSi2 has significant resistance to oxygen-natural gas combustion at high temperatures.
5.Smelting Vessel to Smelt Metal
Elevated temperature mechanical properties in combination with other properties such as electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance enables MoSi2 materials to perform well in molten metals.
