【Know Molybdenum】Factors for Molybdenum Disulfide Oxidation

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is an inorganic substance, which has excellent lubrication on equipment under high temperature, low temperature, high load, high speed, chemical corrosion and ultra-high vacuum conditions. It starts to oxide at a temperature higher than 450°C. The influencing factors of oxidation are as follows:

1. Temperature

MoS2 starts to oxidize at 450°C, and the oxidation product is molybdenum trioxide. The higher heating temperature, the greater amount of oxidation; the longer heating time at a certain temperature, the greater amount of oxidation.

2. Granularity

The oxidation is greatly related with its particle size. The smaller particle size, the greater oxidation amount at a certain temperature and the same time.

3. Humidity

MoS2 gradually oxidizes at a certain temperature, and the participation of water will promote the oxidation.
