Producing High Quality TZM Alloy Rod

TZM alloy has wide application prospect in molybdenum alloy. TZM alloy usually use at 1000℃ high temperature environment. TZM alloy not only can use as die-casting molds materials, but also can use as throat liner of rocket nozzle, valve body, nozzle jet, nozzle tip and gas vessel and so on.
Using powder metallurgy method to produce TZM alloy rod, firstly adding 0.55%(wt)TiH2 powder, 0.12%(wt)ZrH2 powder and 0.05%(wt)carbon powder with high purity molybdenum into V shape maxing tank mixing for 24h so all the alloy element can mix with molybdenum powder even. Besides, the purity of TiH2, ZrH2 and carbon powder is above 99.5%. Even mixed powder under 196MPa pressure employ isostatic compaction and the pressing density is 7.2g/cm3. Through the hydrogen in induction heating after sintering the density of TZM alloy is above 9.5g/cm3. When finish the sintering process should processing the alloy. But heated shape-changing processing is difficult especially for rod. So if without hot extrusion deformation to forge then the rate of finished products are very low so after sintering the alloy should hot extrusion first and then forging. In this processes technology control is very important because TZM alloy is kind of brittle material during forge process is easy to form the cracks. In order to avoid cracks during forging should take tremendous deformation and fast forge.
