Effect of Different Zr Dopping Amount On TZM Alloy’s Micro-Structure

In order to research the effect of different Zr dopping amount on TZM alloy’s micro-structure, the researchers has observe 3 different Zr dopping amount blank’s SEM picture and analyzed alloy’s special morphology by energy spectrum analysis.
After observe TZM alloy’s SEM picture found with Zr dopping amount increase, Ti and Zr shown up gathering phenomena on grain boundary and when the dopping amount increase the gathering phenomena become more serious which will influence alloy’s whole performance. However, Ti and Zr gathering make alloy’s recrystallization temperature and mechanical properties whether in room temperature or high temperature are higher than molybdenum especially in high temperature.
Analyzed TZM alloy by energy spectrum analysis found with Zr dopping amount increase there are black mass show up and the black mass mainly is Ti and Zr’ oxide. With Zr dopping amount increase, Ti and Zr gathering in the grain boundary forming oxide and it will cause serious embrittling effect on grain boundary make alloy’s mechanical properties decrease.
On the other hand, Ti and Zr is hard to dissolve in Mo so the dopping amount of them are little. The dopping amount of Zr is about 0.1% and Ti is about 0.45%.
